Mulch
I am very interested in the idea that energy never dies, it transforms into something else.
Leaves are a symbol of the cycle of life and death - In this piece, the leaf falling from the tree ensures the tree's long-term survival. When it rots down and becomes mulch it then helps the soil to retain moisture, protects it and helps rain penetrate it. This creates the opportunity of regrowth of new things again, to create life.
I decided to create vivid green leaves to symbolise vibrancy, verdant and vigorous good health.
This piece has been made using a glass technique called combing where you heat the glass up to 870 degrees and draw a metal rod through the molten glass to create the stem of the leaf.
